By Russ, on January 6th, 2012% It was around this time last year that those of us interested in getting a Free Software conference pulled together in Saint Louis tried to get things rolling. We weren’t able to do it and it looks like we won’t be able to do it again this year. However, there has been a great deal of response from folks saying that they would love for this event to happen. There was also much disappointment when we announced the delay. The biggest problem we’re facing is participation.
We need it at every level.
So here’s the rub: We need to start forming committees, getting people to commit to the event, and start doing things in order to make sure it happens. I am calling for anyone who can spend some time organizing, getting a venue lined up, finding speakers, advertisers, vendors, exhibitors, or what have you to let us know and let us know as soon as possible. We are going to put a hard limit on this. If we do not have a dedicated team of particpants ready to put this event together by June 1, 2012 then we will bury the whole thing entirely and never think of it again.
If you can help, are dedicated to the cause, please let us know. We want this event to happen, but we need YOU to make it happen.
By Russ, on March 1st, 2011% Hello, everyone. It is with regret that we announce that MAGNet Con is being pushed back until 2012. There are several reasons for this, but the most relevant is that we simply ran out of time to get the event off the ground this year. That being said, holding off until 2012 will allow us to make sure the conference is planned properly and goes off without a hitch. Here are our new immediate goals:
- Establish a core group of volunteers to make sure that the event is planned properly and in a timely manner.
- Create a speaker committee that will be tasked with finding talent for the show.
- Create a sponsorship committee that will work on attracting vendors and managing the exhibit portion of the conference.
- Create an entertainment committee that will be responsible for live events, pre- and post-party planning, etc.
- Promote the show with help from the local community as well as the Internet community at large.
- Schedule regular meetings so that all volunteers are kept up to speed on every aspect of the con as it develops.
- Put our best efforts forward to make MAGNet Con a huge success.
If you are interested in joining the core group of volunteers, please let us know as soon as possible by e-mail at volunteers@magnetcon.info. Our regular meetings will be scheduled weekly on Monday nights at 9:00pm Central Time. If you join our team, please be willing to attend meetings as often as possible. We will meet on IRC, channel #magnetcon on irc.freenode.net. If you need help using IRC, let us know and we’ll get you started.
We have heard good things from the community about our show and we know this announcement will disappoint many. We sincerely apologize for getting so far and then ultimately coming up short, but we will regroup and we will have an outstanding conference in 2012.
By Russ, on August 31st, 2010% For those wishing to submit a presentation and be a valued guest speaker at MAGNet Con, the form has just been added to the site. Information on submitting the form is contained inside. Go to the Speakers Page and download the application PDF.
Sponsors and Exhibitors, your documents have been uploaded also. If you go to the Sponsorship Page, you’ll find two PDF documents there, one a prospectus on the conference and the other an application and agreement form. Instructions on getting the forms back to us are inside.
Thank you for your interest in MAGNet Con, and we hope to see you all there!
