Introduction

The Mid-America Linux Fest is a project that has just begun. After seeing how popular the Ohio Linux Fest is, and witnessing how Linux Fests in general are beginning to proliferate, it seemed that a Linux Fest was needed in America’s heartland. Most activities of this kind are located on one coast or another, and several are headquartered in Ohio. And there’s nothing wrong with Ohio, but it seems that a location even more centralized could attract a much larger and more diverse group of conference attendees.

Missouri is very close to the geographic center of the United States. Within a 12-hour driving distance are Albuquerque, Atlanta, Birmingham, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Detriot, Houston, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, Oklahoma City and many, many more parts of the country not listed. With four major cities which provide national and/or international airpots, popular night life and attractions and fantastic exhibition space, Missouri is a pefect place to hold an event of this kind.

The Mid-America Linux Fest is currently in the planning phase. We would like to have an event in 2010, but understand it is all too likely that we will not have everything lined up in time, and that after putting this all together, our inaugural conference will be in the late spring or early summer of 2011. If you are interested in helping to get this event off the ground, please e-mail info@midamericalinuxfest.org with your areas of expertise and your desire to help. With your help, we can make this a successful and rewarding endeavor.
